The X-Ray Department of Aretaieio PrivateHospital is fully equipped with X-Ray machines of the latest technology, as well as well-trained staff. Our staff consists of two experienced Radiologists, Dr Polykarpos Pilavas and Dr Christophoros Nicolaou. There are also five Radiographers and four secretaries, with George Konstantinou, Radiographer, as superintendent. The department’s staff regularly attends Radiological meetings and conferences.

The X-Ray Department is equipped with:

  • 2 X-Ray – fluoroscopy rooms
  • 1 portable X-Ray machine
  • OPG – Cephalometrics machine
  • DEXA machine (for measuring bone density)
  • Mammography machine
  • Ultrasound machine
  • CT scanner
  • MRI scanner

All our equipment is of the latest digital technology. They are regularly monitored and checked by our Medical Physicist, thus making sure they are always functioning at their optimal level and only delivering the minimum possible (and government approved) radiation dose.

The following examinations are carried out at our XR Department:

  • All routine X-Rays
  • Mammography
  • DEXA (test for bone density)
  • All routine fluoroscopic examinations, such as intravenous pyelography (IVP), barium swallow, barium meal, barium enema, follow through, check for gastrooesophageal ring
  • Orthopantomograms (OPG) and cephalometric X-Rays, as well as X-Rays of the temporomandibular joints (TM joints)
  • All routine ultrasound examinations, such as abdomen, pelvis, neck, thyroid, breast, vascular (carotid arteries, lower limb veins), as well as musculoskeletal scans
  • X-Rays of the whole spine for scoliosis or kyphosis
  • Specialised fluoroscopic examinations, such as hysterosalpingography (HSG), fistulograms, ERCP, urethrography
  • Diagnostic biopsies from the liver, as well as paracenteses and abscess drainages or drainage of other pathologic collections under ultrasound guidance
  • Stereotactic mammography examinations for better localization of any breast pathology
  • Fluoroscopy-guided joint injection of steroids/Hyaluronic Acid for arthritis/etc
