{"id":7592,"date":"2025-11-19T14:32:04","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T12:32:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aretaeio.com\/?p=7592"},"modified":"2025-11-19T14:41:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T12:41:15","slug":"500-epemvaseis-variatrikis-cheirourgikis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aretaeio.com\/en\/500-epemvaseis-variatrikis-cheirourgikis\/","title":{"rendered":"A Milestone: 500 Bariatric Procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">On Wednesday, November 12th, our surgeon, Dr. Marios Pedonomou, together with his surgical team, successfully performed another laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy for the treatment of morbid obesity in a female patient with a Body Mass Index of 52.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This procedure marks the 500th operation in Dr. Pedonomou\u2019s career and represents a significant milestone for both him personally and for the advancement of Bariatric Surgery in Cyprus.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Obesity continues to be a major public health challenge of our time, carrying numerous adverse consequences for the lives and overall health of affected individuals.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Bariatric surgery, also known as obesity surgery, remains the only scientifically proven, effective treatment for the disease.
